I tracked my problem down to something very horrible happening with interop and the code running alsa in a shared library. Crashville.
Until such time as that is (ever) sorted, I've put up a process-based solution that really does work,not just in the IDE. Simply put all the files(at the new ftp account) in any one folder and run the mono executable. Satisfaction guaranteed. Until the next bug!
