For the help and guidance last night. I managed to get rid of this slow shrinking of applications on screen when minimized and also the small Desktop window by going to settings, Workspace appearance, and disabling Desktop effects. I did not need to load the proprietary drivers. (I Couldn't find that anywhere)
I also like to use the icons on the taskbar rather than on the desktop, so I appreciate that hint about how to do that. Cheers all.
