Hi Ralph

I thought there was an easy way but just could not think how _and_ I'd read the section but had not registered what it said!! I'd been looking and thinking of writing directly in one layer!
Will now try it out on a dummy file to ensure I don't delete previous work.
Thanks very much.

Hi Clive,

A project I'm doing for the local Church is using GIMP and a digital
local map; I'm trying to add house numbers onto a single layer to the
map, but each time I try adding a number Gimp adds another layer. This
means we end up with loads of layers, one for each number!
Gimp can merge multiple layers into one.

You may also find http://explorer.geowessex.com/ useful for your map
work though it can be a bit slow. It shows some house numbers.

Cheers, Ralph.
