Yes I know python is better and I do sometimes review and re-write the job into
python and more rarely perl.
I dont think I have touched a compiler in years
It just seems to me that the shell and awk are so convenient because they do so
much for you and you can concentrate on the real problem.
And awk, unlike perl and to a large extent python is selfcontained.
I dont have to scratch around looking for the particular library - its all there
available to me. They also encourage small code.
Very much in keeping with the *nix philosophy.
