Thanks all. I took the plunge and activated my XP. That took about 10s and there was no problem, no finger-wagging at me by MS. They must be getting senile.

I may not be qualified to answer that question. When I installed my copy of XP, it was under an MSDN licence, so I was legally allowed multiple activations anyway. I have re-installed and re-activated several times since, but I may not have hit my limit yet. I'm assuming that your copy is a personal one and your concern is that you have already activated it once. As I say, I'm not a Windows expert, but my recollection with XP is that you can activate it multiple times if you have bought a full copy, eg a version that was bought 'stand-alone' for installation on a PC from any source. If it's an OEM version, eg it came with a PC, then I think the rules are different. Any comment anyone?
