Hi, As the subject line says, I can't read anything from the DVD Drive.
Here is what happened. I was in the process of copying the / and /home partitions from my 1 TB drive to my new SSD Drive and a 320GB 2.5" Drive as I've mentioned elsewhere. As also mentioned I've been using SystemRescueCD to do it. So I booted from SystemRescueCD and copied the / partition to the SSD. This worked fine. I then shut down so that I could swap the SATA and power cables from the SSD to the 320GB disc. When I rebooted. SystemRescueCD seemed to be having problems booting. Initially, it stopped when setting up udev and then subsequently didn't want to read anything much from the disc after initial boot. Finally it stopped booting completely and I couldn't see anything on the disc when I had booted into Kubuntu. Here is what I've tried: I've cleaned the lens on the DVD drive with a cleaning kit, but still no life. In the BIOS, the drive is recognised as a HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GT60N (which is a slimline internal device). The DVD Quality Testing tool QPxTool reports the same and reads back its capabilities. It believes it to be on /dev/sr0. When I type: sudo mount -t auto /dev/sro /media/terry I get 'mount: no medium found on /dev/sr0'. It looks to be a goner to me, but are there any other tests worth trying before I buy a new one? -- Terry Coles -- Next meeting: Bournemouth, Tuesday, 2015-09-01 20:00 Meets, Mailing list, IRC, LinkedIn, ... http://dorset.lug.org.uk/ New thread: mailto:dorset@mailman.lug.org.uk / CHECK IF YOU'RE REPLYING Reporting bugs well: http://goo.gl/4Xue / TO THE LIST OR THE AUTHOR
