As you know I am also on Kubuntu 25.04 and using Thunderbird 140.4.0esr

try and avoid Snaps as I don't like the extra directories clogging up my
visible file structure.
I am also not a fan of snaps. but Canonical have taken the decision to
gradually move over to them whenever they are available. I checked in
Synaptic and the entry for Thunderbird is labelled:
Transitional package - thunderbird -> thunderbird snap
I suspect that means that any attempt to install it will trigger a snap
install. It may be that your installation shows it installed in
Synaptic only because it was installed before snaps came in.
Needless to say, I've heard nothing from Launchpad on the problem. I've
spent hours looking for a file that is serving as a flag, with no
success. I suppose it's possible that the flag is held within snapd; if
so I suspect I need some support from the snap developers to safely
remove it.
