Title: Data Analyst:

Location: SACRAMENTO, CA

Duration: 3 to 6 Months

Interview: NON-LOCALS OKAY BUT LOCALS WILL BE PREFERRED.

Report preparation and analysis could include any/all of the areas of
managed care, billing, accounts receivable, reimbursement, and scheduling.
The Reporting Analyst II will also be responsible for generating both
recurring and ad hoc reports per the direction of Supervisor, Analytical
Reporting Services and integrating information from those analyses into
written management reports.  They will be expected to perform various
special projects as assigned, as well as meet appropriate accuracy
standards and deadlines.



III.        Reporting Relationships

The Reporting Analyst II reports directly to the Supervisor, Analytical
Reporting Services.



IV.        Principle Accountabilities

A.         Analyze data from Epic, IDX MCA, BAR and/or SCHED applications,
in a data warehouse environment, and develop client reports related to
managed care, billing/accounts receivable, provider productivity, and/or
reimbursement.

1.         Summarize financial, statistical, and clinical information to be
used by the Client to make related business decisions.

2.         Develop/Maintain standard report set for Client to use in
tracking key reporting areas.

3.         Investigate and explain recent trends or abnormalities in the
data and suggest corrective action as appropriate. Reviews findings with
client representative \ requestor as well as Sutter Physician Services’
Client Services Manager and assist them in interpreting recent trends /
abnormalities.

B.         Educates internal staff (Finance, Analysts, Client Services
Managers, PBS) regarding the content and purpose of the reports. Prepares a
variety of special projects and ad hoc reports at the request of the
Client, in conjunction with prioritization and input from Client and
Manager, Analytical Reporting Services.

1.         Work with client and/ or designated representative with special
information requests designed to meet specific business needs or provide
decision support which may include:

a)         In-depth analysis of Epic, IDX MCA, BAR and/or SCHED data

i)          Analysis of data to answer specific business questions centered
in the billing and accounts receivable process

ii)         Analysis of medical group/IPA/individual physician performance
by payor, medical specialty, or geographic region.

iii)        Analysis of managed care cost/utilization data to support
physician/specialty profiling, provider contracting, capitation agreements,
etc.

iv)        Production of inpatient data reports surrounding bed days,
admits, length of stay, readmission rates, etc.

v)         Reimbursement analysis in areas of underpaid claims and/or
underbilled invoices for revenue recovery opportunities.

b)         Develop or assist in developing new reports to track/measure
provider performance and productivity.

2.         Provides knowledge/support and collaborates with the other
analysts in the department.

3.         Participate on interdepartmental teams for the purpose of
improving efficiency, solving operational problems and developing or
implementing new procedures and reports.

C.         Works collectively in a professional manner

VI.        Minimum Position Requirements

A.         Education

1.         Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business Administration,
Information Technology, Finance or Healthcare, or equivalent combination of
education and pertinent experience in healthcare field.



B.         Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

1.         At least three years experience analyzing data/producing reports
in a healthcare environment required.  Managed care, billing and accounts
receivable, and/or reimbursement preferred.

2.         Experience in all 3 functional areas a definite plus but not
required, as scope of services by Client may vary. Prior Experience with
reporting in an Epic or an IDX environment preferred.

3.         Advanced computer proficiency in the areas of spreadsheets,
graphics, database, and word-processing software (MS Office products) in a
Windows environment required. Prior experience reporting in a data
warehouse environment preferred.

4.         Experience with direct data warehouse reporting.

5.         Ability to structure queries to pull data from data warehouse,
then comprehend business question to roll data together in a logical,
meaningful and efficient manner, and then interpret results.

6.         Familiarity/Experience in SQL, Microsoft Reporting Services,
OLAP reporting, data cubes, and web based reporting/deployment a plus.

7.         Knowledge of Medicare, Medi-Cal and private insurance billing
and related data elements of HCFA 1500 and/or UB92 forms (CPT, ICD-9, etc).
Prior clinical or coding experience a plus.

8.         Must have exceptional critical thinking, analytical skills and
attention to detail.

9.         Ability to understand existing processes and legacy databases.

10.       Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.

11.       Ability to independently structure client and individual
physician performance reports with limited direction and supervision.

12.       Ability to demonstrate creativity in the development and
enhancement of performance reports.

13.       Ability to manage multiple projects with varying priorities while
meeting deadlines.

14.       Ability to effectively interact with internal staff & clients.
