I have a VC++ 6.0 project which contains source files that do not reside in
the project directory. They reside in a common directory shared by other
projects. All of the projects and their associated common source files are
checked into Source Safe. When I open this project in VC++ 6.0, the common
source files in the project tree accurately reflect their current VSS
status.

I am now attempting to migrate this project to VS .NET. I made a new
directory and copied all of the projects files into this new directory. I
then opened the project's DSW file in VS. NET. This prompts me to convert
the project to VS .NET format. I was then prompted to fix the VSS settings
(VS.NET complained that the .OPT file was corrupt/unusable). After going
through some motions to rebind the VSS server and project settings via the
Change Source Control dialog, the common source files no longer show their
current VSS status.

How do I get these common source files that don't reside in the project's
directory to show their VSS status?
