I thought a well formatted node has a /> 

such as

<NodeName attributes=stuff />

or 
<NodeName>a bunch of stuff here</NodeName>

this doesn't have that.

It _is_ a node, just not an element node (it's actually a processing
instruction node, but that's another matter ;))
