I have XP Pro - but I think I have it resolved now. A friend got me to modify the DNS server here, remove some things, then add some forwarding and away it went. I still have a phantom domain controller in Active Directories that I would like to remove (was a machine which no longer exists, but I can't remove it from AD) but otherwise I am back on the network again - thanx.
