Your first post stated that you were using a proxy and VPN.  Just because
you are using VPN doesn't mean that there is no proxy.  If the remote end
requires a proxy, you still need to use it.

Since you are connecting through a VPN connection, you will want to check
out the connection outside of your application to make sure that all the VPN
settings are correct.  Your choice of default routes can cause your
connections to fail.
