The formatting of the text e.g. newlines, tabs etc need to be trimmed. The basic idea is that any whitespace and newlines will be trimmed from the start and end of the HTML block ... this would also include <br>, <br /> empty spans etc. the thing that makes doing this difficult is preserving the core HTML.
