The same reason we go from Windows 2000 to Windows XP to Windows Vista to Windows 7. Technology is constantly changing and in order to keep yourself up to date as a user of technology you should embrace the new technology. If you don't wish to embrace the new technology, a technology career is NOT a good choice.
Additionally, I would recommend going to .NET 3.5.
