If I have to summarize it than you can use/create proxy on the same computer
as matlab runs to support the ssl function.

And no, you can't make standalone matlab with no ssl support to communicate
with ssl enabled service (matlab would get just a dump of data), so using a
proxy is quite a wise idea :)
