I disagree. As a beginner, it is best to be familiar with the most
convenient, most powerful, most contemporary methods -- which for
this, is generics.

As a more seasoned professional, sure, it's great to know the history
of your framework, understand the limitations of older mechanisms --
but it doesn't provide any value in the day-to-day CRUD apps that 90%
of less-seasoned developers are dealing with 100% of the time.
