Auto size property in C#

In VB6 I could set the width of a label, then set the
autosize property to true. Text would then wrap and I
could check the height of the label.

This seems to be totally missing in .NET. If you set the
autosize property to true, you always get a single line
label. The documentation implies that you can autosize
for height, but nothing I try will work. Text will only
wrap if autosize is false - but this requires that you
know the required height of the text ahead of time. There
are some preferredheight and preferredwidth properties,
but they only work with single line text (and autosense
doesn't know they exist).

Am I missing something obvious or it just cannot be done?
