The CLR uses a JIT compiler to convert MSIL method calls to Native code. .Net assembly must be converted into Native code for a target machine before they can be executed. So there is an overhead with the first invocation of method. using the Ngen(Native Image Generator) tool an assembly can be converted into its Native code or image. this means call to the Native image will load faster. Limitations: native image that Ngen generates cannot be shared across Application Domains. |
