Hello, I would like to introduce the DoudouLinux project team so that our new contributors know who we are, what we are supposed to do and who to contact. You may know that we are still a young project and as we are growing, we are also starting to organize our project a bit as I'll explain below. I'll finish this mail by presenting myself since I think this is better to know a little who are the persons we work with. So get prepared for a long mail…
The team ======== The “old” team is the following: * Marian and Elena are our Romanian contributors, they translate into Romanian, Marian also understand French (more than he pretends ;) ) * Sergey, Ivan and Yulia are our Russian contributors, they translate into Russian and just achieved a large advertising campaign in Russia (local TV report + tons of articles) * Fayçal is our Tunisian contributor, he translates into Arabic, as many Arabic people he also speaks French fluently * Janneth and Hugo are our Colombian contributors, they translate into Spanish, they also speak French fluently * Jean-Michel, I am the project founder, I translate into French and do a lot of technical stuff (you can try to write to me in Russian or Spanish but honestly I can't guarantee I'll understand) People who recently contacted us to participate into the DoudouLinux project are: * Alex and Ilyas (alias Capone) who proposed to translate into Ukrainian, Alex can also translate into Esperanto, both speak Russian fluently and Alex also speaks French fluently (but not Romanian ;) ) * Fabien who is French, Vasia (alias zaG) and Andrey (alias ZeroXor) who are Russian, proposed to help the project * Ilyas (another Ilyas, not Capone) who proposed to translate into Tatar We are also enlisting Avgusta who is Russian and can draw some artwork. Ukrainian translation has already started, Fabien should start very soon to help French <-> English translation, we proposed Vasia and Andrey to help the Russian translation and we are waiting for Ilyas's answer since we agreed to start the Tatar language (translation files are ready). Please correct me if I altered some information! Organization ============ Concerning the project organization, you know that I'm the project founder and leader. Marian and Sergey accepted recently to help me managing the project and welcoming our new contributors because we should now be 16 members - too much for me alone considering all other stuffs I have to do. Right now I asked them to be the main interlocutors respectively for the Ukrainian translation and Russian/Tatar translation. So please refer to them first if you're concerned. Of course I'm still available for technical questions that may arise during your translation job. NB: Fabien will rely on me to start his work. I would like to add that we are currently thinking about our project growth and we feel that we have to achieve a first step into organizing our team. For example we had no release schedule until now. We do not have neither an ordered list of pending tasks nor any road map for future releases. As a result people who wish to join the project do not know how to help except if they bring a new language. Of course there is an explanation: a road map is useless if there is no reliable work force to achieve it! But things have changed and we now believe that we have enough reliable contributors to start organizing. We'll tell you more as soon as we've decided how to organize. Before changing of topic, I would like you to know that we are willing to spread DoudouLinux all around the world. We have not set how to proceed yet but you can be sure that your help will be required at least to spread in your own country or in other countries speaking your language(s). About me ======== Some of us made the effort to present themselves, so I'll do the same. I founded DoudouLinux unofficially in late June of this year after several months of work and I officially presented this project to the French-speaking Linux community in early September - not so far. You'll find on our website a short history of the project whose first experiments took place during years 2006/2007. In everyday life I'm an engineer and I'm responsible for the scientific computing equipment of a middle size R&D center. Therefore I can write source code or scripts, I can administrate Linux systems, I can write articles as well. I'm also persuaded that computers should do all the repetitive/deterministic tasks for us and I like to find simple solutions to complex problems! :) Concerning DoudouLinux I'm currently in charge of all the technical tasks: CD build, source code management (including PO files), coding, patching, uploads, web server admin, etc. I wrote some articles for LinuxFr, I also wrote most of English/French pages of our website. However I do not pretend to know everything so if you've got some interesting proposition to improve anything, please let me know. I'm also open to any collaboration concerning those technical tasks. Concerning free software, I discovered Linux in late 2003 and this was a kind of revelation. I totally stopped using Windows in early 2005 even at work where IT teams persist in using Microsoft products everywhere they can… After having tried many distributions I finally landed on Debian which provides me both high stability and an amazing choice of applications. This is one reason why DoudouLinux is based on Debian. That's all I wanted to say. I invite those of our team members who did not present themselves to do the same. This way they won't be anymore just a name in the website team page or a recipient in a mail interface! Adios, la revedere, до свидания, au revoir, до побачення, (sorry I can't write it in Arabic…) JM. _______________________________________________ Doudoulinux-dev mailing list [email protected] https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/doudoulinux-dev
