Hello,

Here are the weekly news!

Cheers, JM.

Team
====

* We welcomed 3 new contributors for Dutch on TransiFex: FrenchR, Wamukota and
ann1981.

* One or two new contributors is/are expected for Chinese, I'm still waiting a
first contact.

Translations
============

* I received fresh PO files for Dutch (Denis, Wamukota, FrenchR), Russian
(TSPU) and Chinese (Benheng, Nagiosfree).

* New PO files for Gamine and Vkeybd have been created. New resources are on
TransiFex.

CDROM
=====

* Benheng tested the first Chinese build and the second build which is now
available on the dailybuild section
(http://download.doudoulinux.org/dailybuild/). We will publish the first
official Chinese CD for the (Chinese) new year, on the 3rd February.

* Richard asked how to remove sessions in the session menu, the answer is on
our blog (see
http://blog.doudoulinux.org/post/2011/01/19/Changing-the-session-menu). He'd
also like to be able to change sound volume when Mini and Whole DDL sessions
are removed. A ticket is open for this issue (see https://gna.org/bugs/?17551)
and another one for a nice interface to set the session menu (see
https://gna.org/task/index.php?7300).

* The bug concerning LiveUSB-write in the Russian version was not fixed (see
https://gna.org/bugs/index.php?17360). I figured out how to have directives to
tell PO editors check occurrences of strings like “%s” in translations. Don't
know how Transifex deals with it.

* The bug concerning doudou-installer is still on the way (see
https://gna.org/bugs/?17374).

* Finally the latest Gamine version is working on Debian Lenny (and thus on
DDL), the issue was due to Compiz, not Gamine; Compiz is not part of DDL.
Improvements of this new version: localization, keyboard keys output the
corresponding letter, mouse pointer is replaced with a nice pen. However there
is a remaining bug that occurs in DDL only. A fix from upstream is available.

* Discussions are going on concerning the pedagogic recommendations from TSPU
(see https://gna.org/task/?7289). Thanks to the coming tool to set the session
menu, we'll be able to provide additional or remove some sessions from the menu
and let users choose.

* Sergey tested Lili without success. I understood that some Chinese people
also had troubles with this kind of tool… It seems that Pendrive Linux is
working (see
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/).

Website
=======

* The FAQ English pages has been updated.

* Yago translated a new page into Spanish.

* TSPU corrected several pages.

* I'm looking at making a private section of pages. Only Spip users would
access it.

Communication
=============

* I came across a Spanish variant of Tolga's article “6 Linux distros for kids”
(see http://clinuxera.org/odaibanet/6-distribuciones-de-linux-para-ninos/).

* Riccardo published a new article about 2 kid's distros, one being DDL of
course (see http://hubpages.com/hub/Linux-for-your-kids-part-2).

* We have an article on Windows 7 Forums :p, 50,000 visitors/day (see
http://windows7forums.com/linux/57144-doudoulinux-linux-distribution-especially-designed-kids.html).

* Our Alexa rank (site popularity) is now around 900,000 among an estimated
number of 80,000,000 of active websites on the Internet.

* A French director of a school for children from 3 to 6 (école maternelle)
recommends 2 distros for use in schools: DoudouLinux and ASRI (see
http://www.framablog.org/index.php/post/2011/01/17/Promouvoir-le-logiciel-libre-des-la-maternelle).
 He says:

“Il existe des packs logiciels […] très bien conçus, et utilisables dès la
maternelle à l’école ou à la maison.”

Translation: “There are software pakages […] very well designed, and usable as
soon as nursery school or at home.”

Support
=======

* I reviewed some old tickets. I need some of you to check whether they're
still relevant or should be closed:
        - Help file typos, errors and glitches (https://gna.org/bugs/?16925)
        - Persistence mode achieved only from wizard
(https://gna.org/bugs/?16952)
        - Configuration de l'imprimante missed Russian commands
(https://gna.org/bugs/?17012)
        - ChildsPlay crash the system (https://gna.org/bugs/?17027)

* We received a new request for assistance: having an azerty keyboard with DDL
English, which defaults to qwerty… We need a tool to set keyboard layout!
