Hello! I was not able to write the weekly newsletter of the previous week because of holidays :). So this one will report about our activities for the previous 2 weeks. The most important news for next release is the inclusion of a new music software called Songwrite2. I'd like DoudouLinux to incite children practice artistic activities. Children songs are in my opinion a good way to achieve this goal concerning music. Please start thinking of good children songs for our future releases ;).
Please note that next release 2011-05 should land during the next 4 weeks… Cheers, JM. PS: if you think that I forgot to mention an important news, feel free to answer this mail with your scoop! Team ===== * Xavier Brusselaers joined the team. He can do website design as well as programming. He also joined our Dutch translation team and, with his wife, will help Denis. We have agreed that he should start with website redesign to make our website more attractive as soon as possible :). Welcome to our team! Organization =========== * I received 3 candidatures for our association board: Fayçal, Hajer and Richard. You can still apply for joining the association board if you want to, we can have up to 6 board members. * We switched to our new online project management software: Redmine (see message https://mail.gna.org/public/doudoulinux-dev/2011-05/msg00000.html). We need to update our website (see http://team.doudoulinux.org/issues/64). If you've missed the train ;), here is our project management home page: http://team.doudoulinux.org/. Translations =========== * New translations have been submitted for Dutch (Denzzy and Xavier), Persian (Nava) and Swedish (Omnitrax). * German articles are published on our website work copy (Tomsk university & Sergey). They'll be officially online very soon. CDROM ======= Thanks to our new project management software, you can now have a global view of the remaining work for next release as a Gantt chart (see http://team.doudoulinux.org/projects/doudoulinux-cd/issues/gantt). You'll see that graphical interface development is finally not part of this release. I think I'll have no time to offer for this again :(. * A graphical boot/shutdown splash has been added (see http://team.doudoulinux.org/issues/46). * Audio files can now be played at boot/shutdown (see http://team.doudoulinux.org/issues/48) and when battery is low (see http://team.doudoulinux.org/issues/68). These audio files will need translating, but they're not available yet. * A new DDL package has been created: doudoulinux-utils. It gathers various tools that were directly added to the CD image as well as customizations. I'll create a new Transifex resource when it'll be ready. * New application in DDL: Songwrite2 (see http://team.doudoulinux.org/issues/44). Packages for Debian Lenny/Squeeze and Ubuntu (though not tested on Ubuntu) are available on our Debian package repository: http://debian.doudoulinux.org/pkglist.php#s. Its author is enthusiastic about having his software natively shipped within a child distro ;). * We're also looking at TBO for inclusion in DDL (see http://team.doudoulinux.org/issues/57). I started to transcript some popular child song as well as classical music pieces into Songwrite files. I invite you to search for resources of children songs of your country in order to plan their inclusion for future releases. Of course if you're playing music, you can help me put them in DDL ;). Graphics ======== * The logo/mascot contest on OCAL is still running (OpenClipArt Library), see http://openclipart.org/ddl_contest. * Elisa, Boobaloo and Xavier discussed our website redesign on the IRC channel. They still have to work on the website wireframe before starting the actual redesign. Website ======= * A new website snapshot is available and will be online soon. Communication ============= * The latest OIN quarter report mentioned the membership of our project, along with Facebook, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, Mandriva and Symantec ;) – among the 74 new members. Support ======= * No news. _______________________________________________ Doudoulinux-dev mailing list [email protected] https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/doudoulinux-dev
