Thanks for this interesting information. DDL entered DistroWatch by mid May, so 5 months ago, which means our 6 months score should still keep increasing during a small month – but we don't know about ranking, depends on neighbor distros. I agree to say it'd be nice to stay in the top 100 weekly distros, even if we can't know what it means outside of DistroWatch.

Yes. I think this is still one handicap compared to children toys. We have to make a detailed analysis of the system and find where to add audio messages. Yes this is another important point to me :). I think DDL must not be only “yet another OS”. A way to make the difference is to include digital contents. Another way is to make artwork which is not only a decoration, but also conveys an interesting story – that could then lead to derived products like T-shirts, teapots, etc. ;). Concerning digital contents, I found two other interesting websites: WikiSource and LibriVox (see the main ticket http://team.doudoulinux.org/issues/417). Free, libre, resources are existing but they may not cover enough of all our languages. However I think these sites provide enough to start with several languages, the question is how to select then include digital contents. Each language team should have an easy way to set its own list of files to be included in its own CD. Currently there are two issues that make me delay translations for 2.0: 1. Transifex doesn't handle branches of translation resources. I cannot put online the new version of, say, Pysycache and only show this resource in a branch “dev” while the current version is still available from the home page. I can just give it another name, which means our list of 50 resources will grow up to 100… I started to discuss with Transifex folks in early September. They planned to work on this issue but I don't know when it'll be ready. 2. Text files can be imported provided someone (me?) write some script that read PO files and outputs the given text files. Nevertheless Transifex cannot handle audio files and I'd say they won't in a near future. So we have to write our own translation portal for audio files. It's not so complicated since we don't need all the features of Transifex, but I won't have the time to write it until months. I need a volunteer or to apply for a Google SOC or similar, or even a student scholar project with any university.
