Hello there!

I told few words about it in the latest weekly news and things went faster than
expected :). I'm very glad to announce that we're going to receive several ARM
based devices from Genesi [1], an American company, thanks to their projects
sponsorship program. The application of our project for this program was
proposed and achieved [2] one week ago by Gérald who's been working on our ARM
port since months. This is of course an incredible opportunity since the ARM
platform is quickly growing, congratulations!

We have exchanged several emails with Genesi within the past few days. I invite
you to browse their product catalog online [3]. They're about to ship us
several “old” laptops based on iMX51. As the sponsorship program is about their
new products based on iMX53, we'll receive new hardware later (it's not ready
yet). As you guess, the priority for these devices is set to developers and
then graphic designers. Genesi will likely be able to provide additional
devices for testers in early 2012.

Concerning the company, we don't know much about it yet (investigations are
welcome). They highlighted the existence of a non-profit organization called
Power2people [4] which seems strongly linked to Genesi. Their goal “is to
provide very low cost and very reliable end-user computing devices in emerging
communities that can be competently managed locally”. I let you read their
website.

Concerning the Genesi program, as it is just starting, we have to discuss
internally about how to manage it. Their goal is to have DDL in their list of
supported distributions, at the bottom of their homepage [5]. We then have to
clarify who does what. We have already organized a short IRC meeting with Elisa
and Gérald [6] and will organize new ones in the upcoming days and weeks. Of
course you're invited to join these meetings, I'll send an URL to let you
indicate your availability for the next IRC meetings.

Finally, I'm about to organize kind of small information campaign on our
website and on Debian derivatives through their Planet Derivatives [6]. If you
own a blog, don't hesitate to tell the news too :).

All the best!
