Hello!
I've been contacted by the DuckDuckGo folks few weeks ago. They would
like us to replace in our web browser the default search engine, Google,
by their search engine. Linux Mint did this recently and signed a
contract with them.
However, while I feel concerns about the huge power search engines have
acquired in the digital world, and its misuse shifting more and more to
the bad, the opportunity to sign with DuckDuckGo should be quietly
evaluated. The goal is not to fund DDL with DuckDuckGo's revenues
sharing but to provide children with the best desirable web experience:
no ads, no robot spying at them, no personal information resold in their
back. DuckDuckGo folks are perfectly aware and see no issue with hiding
ads in their results pages, thus cutting their revenues down. Indeed
this is a way for them to get a wider audience, which is good enough.
In order to let you make your mind about the Internet search stakes and
what alternatives we have, I prepared a short PDF document with all the
information and thoughts I have on this topic. I hope you'll take the
time to read it, try out several alternatives and be back with a
motivated opinion :). If we would decide to go with them, the next
stable release planned for June would be the first release with DDG on
DDL! :p

Hello team,
I share the same opinion as Oleg.
Not previously knowing DuckDuckGo, I did some (re)search, tests etc. And
I appreciate it.
Although he has not the power or the calculation of a Google, but given
the target of Doudoulinux, it's should be perfect.
Furthermore this will allow us to rid completely of this giant spy !
+1 ! :) Great news !
A+
Xavier
