Do what you think is best then ;). > Try it with OVH ! The bandwitch is not limited... > For my case a full download : 3 minutes ! Great! However I think you probably have a 100M link as many servers in datacenters. > For the moment we have (except error of my part) 3 mirror for the last > version: > 1. Main server, doudoulinux.org (a full dedicated server), > 2. doudoulinux.be (a dedicated hosting), > 3. zoyo.be (a dedicated hosting). Usually when our new releases are announced on DistroWatch, we get around 3000 or 4000 visitors a day, among those 50% may download the CD. We may then have at most 100 concurrent downloads at the same time if downloading is lasting less than a hour. With 3 mirrors connected at 100M, this allows 3Mbit/s per download, quite good! > No server... Sorry. A torrent seeder can also be a personal computer that stays on few days for the new release. But if this is not a laptop, this may consume lots of kWh. > Be carrefull for the CLUF, the ads, and others. > For me (personnal thinks), it's very important that all data stay in > Europe ! No east or american hosting... Currently the mirrors we are offered don't ask us for any particular advertisement. We'll use them transparently anyway: when you click on a download link, the Php script under the button randomly redirects you to a mirror. Personally I'd be pleased to have mirrors all around the world ;). We could later redirect downloads taking into account geolocalization. Currently our host provider is Canadian but, piece of luck, he's hiring servers in a datacenter in Paris!!! I even suspect your servers to be in the same server room as the main DDL server ;). NB: I still believe we should ask a host provider like Gandi to support us with free hosting because they're strongly involved in free software (official sponsor of the coming DebConf 2013 for example). Unfortunately I haven't found time yet to make this task start. -- Cheers, JM.
