Hello,

Few words about version 2.5 and our migration to Debian Wheezy 7.x, the
current stable release of Debian. As you know this is an important step
forward for our project because we'll be able to use efficient ARM ports
of Debian as well as the Raspberry Pi specific port. And to say the
truth, the more I progress in this migration, the more I'm convinced it
is important!

One week ago, I started to migrate the most advanced activity “Whole
DDL” to Wheezy. My objective is to provide Debian packages that install
this activity alone, without any main menu, in order to let people start
testing DDL on Wheezy. I'm now close to have an environment that is
graphically similar to Whole DDL but without installing DDL full, as
explained. I'll write a post on our blog as soon I have finished this
first step. Then I'll have to migrate configuration tricks to this
environment so that this environment is complete.

Concerning ARM, fortunately I found out ways to cross-build Debian
packages on my native architecture amd64 (PC 64 bits) for foreign
architectures, namely armhf/Debian and armhf/Raspberry Pi (Raspbian). No
more need to have a real build environment running on ARM, and then
exchanging files on USB keys. This also means I'm now able to progress
simultaneously on all the supported architectures: things that work on
one arch should work on all the other ones.

As of writing, I've just installed the full set of DDL applications on a
Genesi Efika laptop (armhf/Debian) with the packages I modified to get a
standalone Whole DDL activity. And guess what? It seems to be working
very well :). Performances are much better than those we had with DDL /
Debian Squeeze / armel – although some games are still not playable. If
you have a Raspberry Pi at home, I'll provide a disk image within few
weeks :). In the mean time, our Debian package repository already
contains new packages for Wheezy and a special repository for RPi has
been setup. I'll write a post about this very soon. Stay tuned!
