What nVidia chipset is this? I must say I've never tested the
development version on nVidia.

You may be indeed using a generic frame buffer driver instead of an
nVidia compatible one. Proprietary nVidia drivers are not installed in
DDL but Debian is providing them in the non-free section. They may not
manage your video chipset though, they're quite outdated.
