Hello!

I'm very glad to announce that DoudouLinux 2.0 Hyperborea is now
officially out :). After 2 years of development, this new major version
is providing many great new features [1] with fully redesigned advanced
activities, new graphics, new applications, a new installer, etc.
Available in 43 languages, this release is nearly occurring 3 years
after the birth of our project in 2010, which shows the interest our
project has gained all around the world. As usual you can download it
from:

But DoudouLinux is not just a CD/DVD of educative stuffs for children.
DoudouLinux is now a vast project on its own. We have published with
version 2.0 a manifesto [2] that defines the philosophy and the ethics
of our project: we want our children be able to fully master the digital
world they are going to live in, instead of undergoing it. As a result
we now feel very concerned about user privacy [3], especially when it
comes to children. DoudouLinux also wants to drive children (and their
parents) to projects with a similar philosophy as ours: Wikipedia,
OpenStreetMap, Open CLipart Library, etc. As you can see, DoudouLinux
can do more than just collecting children-oriented applications and that
is what we have started to do.

Finally I would like to thank all the people who took part to the
achievement of this release. Many different skills have been involved:
developers and testers of course, but also drawers, translators,
writers, promoters, sysadmins, and so. Without the help of the
community, DoudouLinux would never be what it is now. Also he will never
reach all his ambitious objectives either if people do not keep involved
and if the community does not keep growing at it has been amazingly
growing since 3 years, while it really started from zero. Our success
just shows that DoudouLinux is answering issues that no other
distribution was addressing before. We are on the good way and should
continue on this way!

Our next step, DoudouLinux 3.0, is to move to a Debian Wheezy base with
a multilingual DVD and a set of 700MB CD's targeting the older computers
(486 processors). This evolution will make DoudouLinux better run on
ARMâ„¢ computers, especially the Raspberry PI we hope. The DVD will also
be able to include more applications than it is now including and
probably more digital contents. Yes we want DoudouLinux to be always
better!
