dsync doesn't need existing indexes, it wants to create indexes. If it can't because of e.g. permission issues, you should be able to work around it with: dsync mirror mbox:~/mail:INDEX=/tmp/indexes I might change dsync at some point to work even without permanent mailbox GUIDs, but there are many other more important things to do.
