Hi there Giles, not really a solution to your problem, but a hint: Try activating "verbose_proctitle = yes" in your dovecot.conf, restart service dovecot and you might get more information (when the load is produced by logged in users) - it gives you verbose information about which specific user with which IP is generating the high load.
