Up to version 2.2.24 working fine.
Could you get gdb backtrace? Probably just:
gdb --args doveadm quota recalc -u user@domain
run
bt full
with 2.2.25.2 you'd need the dovecot-ee-debuginfo package.
I found the the command works fine but output the error.
I will try to get gdb backtrace.
