Dovecot has some many options and ways to use it, that problems can come for all kinds of places. But even if just 5% if the config is relevant, it helps. So you're running on RHEL9 (or Almalinux, etc) running dovecot 2.3. It sounds like you have replication to another host setup. But again, since you didn't post your config, its hard to tell. I'd guess you're using mdbox, which I think is a bad idea honestly. If you corrupt the mdbox file, all the email in that mailbox could be lost. Using Maildir format helps limit the damage potential in my opinion. And it means that you can still read and access the email without having to use IMAP and dovecot in the worst case. But again, describe your setup more clearly, look in the dovecot log files, post log files, etc. All this helps us help you.
