Dear Jörg,
HIDE_COMPOUND_REFERENCE as not part of the 1.8.8 distribution but has been
introduced in the current git version as pull request 163 based on
*Bug 729236* <https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=729236> - Allow
user to suppress compound reference suffix from titles.
I assume your self compiled version on Linux is based on the git version
and that the update of the Doxyfile has been done with this version.
