In my team we build&package several tools (like Git and CMake) to keep dev boxes (from el5 to el7) up-to-date. So we had to work/rework spec files and builds. Let me see with my colleagues what we can provide/suggest. It would a pleasure to contribute. The current spec file and your link are very good starting points.
