Dear Anselm and Marcus,

You are absolutely right about your first choice. Please don't hesitate to
provide patches for each and every entry in the bug tracker, even the smaller
ones :) -- but by solving #3511072 you wouldn't even catch a glimpse on Saros'
inner workings.

Our first "line of defense" against this is asking the user to create a new
account or enter the credentials of an existing one every time Eclipse is
started with an empty account list. But since the user can simply click on
[Cancel] this line might fall.
The second one is the short advice "Add XMPP/Jabber account first", which
probably often goes unrecognized. (It's displayed in dark grey bar in the Saros
view)
The last one is rather implicit: If you only got one account in your Eclipse
workspace, you can't delete it -- thus you're unable to clear your account list
this way, even if you want to.

Therefore I'd suggest that you take care of that topic in-depth.
 * Put your idea into practice and handle the click on the "Connect" button.
 * Allow the removal of an account, even if it's the last one in the list.
 * If you've got further ideas how to guide a user, who doesn't want to create
an account right after the Eclipse startup, let us know.

I thought I already saw the second point mentioned somewhere in the bug
tracker, but I'm not able to find it right now.

These points combined make two related patches that take care of one topic. I
fear solving only the first one might be "too easy" as well.

There's no need for creating a new bug tracker entry, if you're going to work
on it immediately. We have no policy that requires such strict behavior. But
you're free to do so, of course.

Best Regards,
Franz

Subject: [DPP-Devel] Open and fix issue

Dear Developers of Saros,

we are students attending the lecture "Softwareprozesse" and would like to help
you by fixing a bug, too. First we decided to pick up issue #3511072 [1], but
as it turned out, we would just have to replace an icon and fix this bug
without a single line of java code.

So we looked for another task. When setting up saros, we were very annoyed by
the behavior that nothing happend when clicking "Connect", what was due to the
fact that we haven't created an account, yet. It seems like there isn't an
entry in the bug tracker concerning this issue. So we would open it and we
would fix it by showing the dialog to create an account if this has not been
done before by the user.

Please let us know, whether this is an appropriate solution for an appropriate
issue to be opened.

Best regards,
Anselm and Marcus
