Because you will get a new color if you change your account which is also weird.

Shouldn't it be just the hash of the JID, as it was? What was wrong with that?

    Your choice is ? :P

    Hi Stefan,

I see. This also explains why no color is pre-selected in the
    Appearance preference page.

How "hacky" is your idea? There is no need for a quick-and-dirty
    solution.

However, I would like to release on Friday, to have enough time
    for the following things:
     * Reviewing the announcement/README file
     * Figuring out the drop-in problem (that your task, Michael)
     * Preparing the announcement of the new Saros website -- which
should be available as soon as the DNS servers invalidated their
    caches.

    Re-Release

    Hi Franz,

the default favorite color is not blue on new installation but UNKOWN,
therefore you get the next free available color on startup (which
    is 0 =
    blue).

I can create a hack for the current release if you like.

    Dear developers,

during the development of the recent weeks I was under the
impression, that the default favorite color is assigned randomly,
based on a JID hash or something. But as it happens, the default
color is always blue, leaving all new and upgrading Saros users
with the *same* default color (blue), thus leading reliably to
    color conflicts.

I just commented out the entries of for release 13.3.15 in the
Update Site (site.xml), for the following reasons:
      * Fixing this in the next release would be cumbersome, because
one needs to discriminate the state of an untouched favorite color
blue from the deliberately chosen color blue.
      * The past has shown, that many Saros installations take place
during the first week after a release, so waiting a few days and
releasing a new version, while the current one is still available
    is not an option.

I created a bug tracker item for this topic [1], and would
appreciate a rapid processing. (Stefan: Are you keen on taking
    care of this?)

    I created a re-release branch (release/13.3.22, branching off of
release/13.3.15). Please push the bug-fix to this branch
    (refs/for/release/13.3.22).

Michael: Please do not announce any release yet. Instead, you
might prepare the build patches and announcement messages for
    release 13.3.22.

If you have questions, please don't hesitate asking.

    Franz
