Dear Developers, last week, Holger and I finally managed to perform our research group's User Acceptance Test for Saros 14.10.31. And it took me until now to write this e-mail. I'm sorry for the delay.
Result: There were no major issues but a few minor ones that we would like to see fixed before this version of Saros eventually hits the road. In detail [1]: * #845 "Unavailable Message" feature is clumsy and not always working * #847 Preference page "Communication" is messy * #848 Nickname not displayed for in-session contacts * #849 Session nickname feature is unnecessary --> to be removed * #850 Reusing existing project requires cumbersome manual selection Releasing Saros with these bugs would be a regression since they were not present in Saros 13.12.6. (That's also the reason why entries #841 to #844 -- which we also discovered during the Acceptance Test -- are not that "critical": They existed before. Bug #846 was already fixed by Stefan.) All of these bugs can basically be fixed by removing code/restoring (parts of) the old state. Volunteers assign one of the bugs to themselves in the bug tracker. (Doesn't work/don't know how? Write me back.) In addition, the following two bug fixes somehow slipped through and were *not* validated during the internal testing (the testing process that should discover major flaws so the User Acceptance Test only gets high quality stuff): * #502 Partial Sharing may not recognize file encoding * #839 Editor Annotation still remains even when the file is closed We did came along these during the User Acceptance Test (I discovered that these fixes were not validated only *after* we did the UAT), and I'm optimistic the bugs were actually fixed. Nevertheless, I'd be grateful if the Test Managers of 14.10.31 (Christian and Arndt) catch up on this: Either do the validation yourself, or delegate it. Wouldn't it be nice if at least the version number's *year* actually coincides with the calendrical release date?
