Category: Synchronisation / Invitation Group: None >Status: Pending >Resolution: Fixed Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Alexander Waldmann (netcorps) Assigned to: Alexander Waldmann (netcorps) Summary: Minutes of zero feedback on session initiation Initial Comment: When initiating a session (even between two identical eclipse instances on the same physical host!) it takes up to 2 minutes until eclipse/saros visually signals that the connection process is in the works... (even for totally empty projects with a simple html-file as the only project content). The only feedback after "share a project" is the appearance of the empty session item in the roster (with me as the only user). Then nothing seems to happen (no feedback/no progress bar/no animation that signals: work is done), and then after up to 2 minutes, a progress bar dialog appears (finally) and the other users is asked to join the session. I'd say it would be better if the state of the session is explained next to the "session" item in the roster (compare to "connected using: Socks5..." next to user items in the roster). E.g. "Asking buddies to join session..." (maybe with a nowadays-modern "ajax" animation) or just open the progress bar dialog directly, without a delay. I don't understand yet what is happening in the background before the dialog popups up, which takes quite a while, especially since this takes long even for micro-projects (less than 1KB of file content to compare for sync-state??). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Stefan Rossbach (kargor) Date: 2012-06-17 14:52 Message: MUC creation / joining is now done async. This should fix this issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Karl Beecher (k_beecher) Date: 2011-11-23 02:27 Message: A reproducible error is this: Run a Saros session for users on server A (e.g. local OpenFire), but enter the MUC address for server B (e.g. conference.jabber.ccc.de). The invitation will pause a couple of times and the log will report there were authorisation problems with the MUC. Close the session, change the MUC address to server A (local OpenFire). Start a session again, and the invitation runs smoothly. This may not be the cause here, but now that we can reproduce it, there's a simple way to find out. If it isn't the cause, I will enter a separate bug entry for the behaviour I've described here. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Stefan Rossbach (kargor) Date: 2011-11-22 11:27 Message: I do not think, that the MUC has something to do with that. Before the MUC is initiated the progress dialog must be visible. If you run Saros via STF launch config, full traces are enabled. The logs can be found under .metadata/log in the workspace of that test instance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Karl Beecher (k_beecher) Date: 2011-11-21 08:04 Message: After my investigations into the MUC, I strongly suspect that delayed invitations are often caused by problems talking to the MUC server (it can take many seconds to respond if something is wrong). Hence, the project size makes no difference. Hopefully, my patch (committed last week) stops this from happening. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Alexander Waldmann (netcorps) Date: 2011-11-18 02:03 Message: How can i change the log level to trace and where do i find the logfiles. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Stefan Rossbach (kargor) Date: 2011-11-02 16:12 Message: Can you please increase the log level to trace and post the logs ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=843359&aid=3432243&group_id=167540 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond.
