Yes.
They announced it may 2013: "With Hangouts, Singhal says Google had to make the 
difficult decision to drop the very "open" XMPP standard that it helped 
pioneer."[1]

GoogleTalk will substituted by GoogleHangout which will not support it.[2]

While this is the offical quote, intressting enough they maintain rudimentary 
XMPP functions in Hangouts for now [3]

The entry about the Google Username stuff is completely confusing.

1. The Saros Configuration wizard asks you for your JID and not your XMPP 
username(which is part of the JID).

2. The Configuration page already contains the hint that you can just use you 
Google Email address.

3. What is really harmful is the mentioning of a server ... such an options 
also exists in the configuration page under the advanced options and will cause 
malfunctions if you try to insert: "gmail.com" as server.
