Summary: Failed to parse on-line version...

Initial Comment:
Quite often - after running some "command/shortcut" in
the Deskbar I get a popup saying:
Micrsoft Internet Explorer
Dav's Quick Search Deskbar:
Failed to parse on-line version information. Error
message: The system cannot locate the object specified.

Any clues?

sourceforge seems to have fixed their sync'ing problem. This
problem is fixed.

I didn't know that version.xml had been in the dqsdweb
project... It's actually re-added for 3.1.8, but unfortunately
SourceForge's CVSWeb service has ceased functioning, so
the xml file never propagates to www.dqsd.net, which is
checked for updates.

Sooner or later, this will get sorted out, I hope, and then it
will work.

But you're right that checkForUpdate will have to be re-
enabled for version updates to work, when all this has been
solved.

You have a point, except that you will not get the correct
behavior when/if the version.xml reappears... On the other
hand you don't have to do this fix again if a new version
comes out without improvements.

(version.xml was removed from CVS 19 months ago so I guess
it's pretty safe to assume that this feature will not return any
time soon... )

A better workaround (in my opinion) is to add

  checkForUpdate = false;

in localprefs.js.

I guess pablo0picass0's comment is correct. Don't know who
can fix that.

A temporary work-around is to 'comment out' (using // in
front) the following line in the version.js-file:
      alert( "Dave's Quick Search Deskbar:\nFailed to parse on-
line version information. Error message: " +
checkUpdateOnlineVersionDOM.parseError.reason );

i think its because http://www.dqsd.net/version.xml is missing
on the main server so it fails its verison check
