Apologies for delay on a final answer to the problem of the missing "Add Quick Search" under the test unattended installer - here's a quick progress update.
It looks like my joy at finding an explanation was a bit premature, since I managed to re-trigger the fault. By then I was running into the problem of not knowing whether an installation was being affected by previous install/uninstall cycles, and decided I needed to have a way of applying a new test installer to a "raw" system that is untouched by previous DQSD installs. I had a look around for useful tools, and I've settled on using the free VMware player [1] with some virtualization tools [2]. I'm learning these now. I realise this may look like a lot of mucking around for not much gain... but I'll get there in the end ;) David.
