although now that i think about it some... i think you need to have "Active Desktop" enabled to do this.  I don't know if 98-1 has the ability to do Active Desktop.  but i imiagine if it does, it isn't enabled by default.   can you try enabling Active Desktop?   JB   > i'm really not sure i understand your question.  can you restate it please?     > I have Win 98 1st edition - (I know its atiquated)  Somewheres along the line I have lost the ability to produce ny tool bars.  A right click will produce all the catagories leding up to: ie: Properities - Min All - Tile - etc) and Toolbars  Landing on Toolbars produces a "whiteout" secion "New Toolbar - QuickLaunch - even - Add quick search - but none can be activated.. I have circumvented this difficulty with a little known file on Win 95 disc called "quicktray"  My quick launch filed are still hidden away thru Microsoft Data and quicktray whatever is added to the "clocktray"  Now when I add dgsd it shows itself there and says to run installed agains.. OK I'll try it..Still no response Any ideas?   (lost somewheres) HK
