it seems to work but my main PC (the one with all my CVS stuff) is on the blink.  Can someone post it for me?  anyone know how to get a laptop to come off hibernate even when every trick including standing on your head won't do it? 

I'd try this : unplug it, remove the battery, put it back and replug it, boot.
