The Win-S key wasn't working for me either.. I never felt the need to get
focus on dqsd via the keyboard so it never really bothered me.. I think I
thought I didnt fully understand what was supposed to happen or I was doing
something wrong etc.. I was chatting with Glenn one day and he confirmed I
was doing nothing wrong, but the hotkey still wouldn't work.. I then used
his settings to configure f12 as the hotkey in localprefs.js:

hotkeyCharacter = "";
hotkeyVkCode = 123;//f12

The f12 hotkey DID work as expected... I dont know why the Windows key
didn't work. I think maybe the native keyboard driver didn't support the
Windows key for my keyboard. (I use one of those microsoft natural
keyboards)...

Interestingly, after one of my machines died (beware of win2k service pack
3!) I had to rebuild my machine from scratch. Afterwards, I noticed the
windows key began functioning... This is interesting since I have never
loaded a specific driver for the keyboard and have always just used the
native driver identified by windows during the installation process, and
this is the exact same installation process (and media) I had originally
used to setup the machine...

Maybe something was fixed in the MS updates? (after the new install I was
able to update all the way through SP3..)

Maybe along the way something created some kind of conflict with the
keyboard driver that prohibited the hotkey from functioning...

I dont know if this helps at all..
