If you can share the source code of the page after you log in (we
can't get to it cause it's protected ;)) I can take a look and see
whether a search is possible. The page may use frames or other methods
to keep the address bar with the same url - so it might not be just
one address actually doing all the work.

I do use SSL on a few of the sites/searches I use (like my IPCop
firewall). Searches work just fine, as long as you understand that
you'll still have to login (manually) in order to generate the cookie
that the server will use to identify that you're "logged in." You
could also store the user/password in your browser settings, depending
on what browser you use.
