Before we just happily went on our installation way without ever checking if the appropriate registry settings were actually written so I think what we're doing now is an improvement we just need to figure out which registry settings are the problem on Win98... I don't have any idea on the jumpy dos box - very little has checked in the core dll and all that's changed in the installer is checking for registry write errors and which XP theme is installed (only reads a couple of registry settings if available).
