Taylor was concerned about the growing weight of many of the DF
hitting the sky. Many, many were being flown over
advertised gross weight.
Nate Rambo was enlisted to do some structural calculations to see
if the spar could handle these new weights. As it turned out,
the old layup could indeed handle the weight, but Rex and Nate
wanted some security if they were going to put their blessings on
the regular use of any higher weight than what the original
designer intended.
The new layup was published, along with a new gross weight, ONLY
if the new layup was done.
If you have an old canard, and you adhere to the old limits,
you'll have no problems. If you want to bump your gross to the
new limits, with the old layup.... to each his own. The old
layup calculates to work with the new gross, but it's NOT
RECOMMENDED.
Correct me if I'm wrong,
Pat
