Hearts Beating Life (part 2)

Carine lay sleeping quietly in bed when the barracks became a buzz with activity. Liam had made it to the barracks as fast as his horse would take him, “WE found the guards somebody quick we need help!!!” he screamed as he dismounted from his horse barely bringing it to a stop he ran headlong into the barracks to get help. Guards off duty and on came running to his screams captain Prai quickly grabbed him by the front of his coat and looked him dead serious in the face, ”Where are they? Are they alive?” and she started yelling out orders for a wagon to retrieve the guards as Liam answered her questions with excitement in his voice.

The wagon eventually came upon four guards gently leading their horses with the four injured and near dead guards carefully upon their backs. Angus breathed a sigh of relief as he saw the wagon with a driver and healer being escorted by ten more guard arrives. “Thank the gods you’re here,” they took their time as they eased the four into the back of the wagon the healer inspecting them as they did. As they loaded the last guard into the wagon the healer had a grave look upon his face, “We must get them back now for we have not a moment to waste.” And he started opening his medicinal supplies to start whatever healing he could. The wagon moved along as fast as it could without disturbing the healer and the guards, and Angus rode alongside waiting for word from the healer. Not a word was said the whole way as this contingent of guard’s rode quietly escorting the wagon safely to the barracks.

Upon reaching the barracks the men started removing the guards to take them inside to start warming their bodies even more when the of a sudden the last guard Kyril as he was being moved raised a hand to the sky. Everyone suddenly stopped and the healer looked over him Kyril’s body convulsed and he let out a nightmarish scream to his beloved “FLANDERIA………………” causing the guards around him to shudder at the sight. His chest fell one last time his arm dropped to his side, and his spirit left his body, left the torment, and pain. The healer quickly tried to work and Prai had come running from her office at the scream, but after a few short minutes the healer bowed his head as he said a soft prayer. He had lost the fight, and now could only hope Kyril’s soul would find peace.

The three remaining guards where brought into a room were the healer could attend to them he had not the ability to heal them with a spell or some crazy concoction. He was a healer of the old school and quick shouted order to the others standing around, “strip them down... heat some water... clean that wound, and get me those supplies over there...” as he pointed this way and that, even captain Prai followed the healers words. The healer’s room became a room of organized chaos to some but to him things were going the way he wanted he would not lose another guard to this. Time would go bye and the 3 guards would be saved from the brink of death but there injuries and wounds would be long in healing, and who knows as to what mental scars they will face when they finally do awake. Once things became settled Angus went to tell Carine of what had happened today. “Carine wake up... I have great news, Carine, Carine wake up.” He gently shook her by the shoulder. Carine awoke with a start she had been having bad dreams again, but quickly she settled when she realized she was in the barracks and it was Angus near her. He couldn’t even wait it just burst from his mouth, “We found Rue he is here,” she looked at him startled. “Where is he, where is Rue, is he ok?” and she was immediately trying to get out of bed. Angus had to hold her down, “Carine I don’t know if it’s...” she tried to push him away as pain seared through her side, “I want to see Rue where is he?” And after a few minutes of arguing back and forth Angus new he couldn’t keep her away from Rue he knew he was a big brother to him so he gently helped her out of bed and into a robe, and gently he walked her to the healers room. Guards stepped back as they saw Carine enter in tears they new how badly hurt she was in the battle at the Inn she was one of the lucky few to survive her wounds, and they just lost Kyril too emotions where high.

Carine froze in her steps as she saw the beaten body of Rue laying there in the bed, as the healer worked on another guard she watched Rue’s chest rise and fall with life’s breath, but she wondered for how long. A tear fell down her cheek as she quickly made her way to his side. She would have never thought she would ever see Rue this way ever in her lifetime and now here he was barely alive. She dropped to her knees on the floor next to the bed ignoring her own pain as she leaned over and kissed Rue on the forehead, she slumped further as she grabbed his hand sitting on the floor holding his hand next to her she slowly rocked and cried, “Rue Denali don’t you dare die on me... you can’t leave me,” her tears fell freely and so did the blood once more from her side having reopened the wound she received from the axe blade in battle. Carine ignored her pain as she rocked and cried holding Rue’s hand, “Damnit big brother don’t you dare leave me... ... Rue please...”

The guard’s stared and cried as sorrow was felt in the room. The lives of all who had been touched would never be the same...
