"This is stupid" Bromin muttered to himself as he approached the north wall of Plumwood Manor, "This is really, really stupid."
Bromin threw a rope up to the grim-looking spikes at the top of the wall and gave it a tug, judging if it could hold his weight or not. He threw his cloak over the spikes and hoisted himself upwards, flinging one leg over the wall and letting himself fall into the snow drift on the other side. Bromin pulled himself to his feet and took a look around. On the inside of the wall were numerous small pine trees, and there was a statue in the northeast corner of a man and a fox or something. He quickly scurried up to outside of the mansion, pressing up against the wall. He looked back at his cloak amidst the spikes, the rope, and his footprints in the snow, all of which would give him away eventually. He would need to be swift. He darted over to a pair of wooden doors on the north side of the mansion. It had no windows, and only had a small stone landing leading into the snow drifts. Everything seemed pristine and undisturbed, as if no one had used this part of the manor for quite some time. He pressed his ear against one of the doors. He heard nothing. He pushed on the door. It was locked. He peered into the crack between the doors. He let his eyes adjust, then noticed that there was a wooden plank holding the doors shut. He drew his sword, placed the blade in between the doors below the plank, and thrust upwards. He heard the plank fall loudly against the stone floor and reverberate through the chamber beyond. He opened one of the doors. "Mystonian security," he said to himself with a chuckle as he peered into the dimly lit chamber. It a storage room, full of wooden drums and dried meats hanging from the walls. Bromin hid behind one of the drums as he heard voices and footsteps in the chamber next to him. "Time is of the essence," said one voice as the footsteps passed by, "The transformation must be complete tonight, at all costs." "Yes Dr. Bloor," said a second voice. "Have Targthomen load the supplies onto the lift. I want everything set up underground before I get there." "It will be done." The voices and the footsteps disappeared down the hallway. Bromin carefully opened the door and followed them at a distance, his sword drawn and ready. -- To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives & Other DMI Lists: http://www.dragonmyst.f2s.com/lists.php3
