DA: "Good evening grubball fans, I am Dern Arnak and with me is Westin Tarbral and welcome to Grubball Tonight. A shorter scoreboard tonight as teams begin to get extra breaks during the week and the story of the night up in Tralazir, where the Keepers were to play their first game since the loss of Hinterplodder Branth Perlegi last Sunday night. Also on the agenda for tonight, rumors abound throughout the league regarding a postseason restructuring. What will this mean for the teams in the league? But first, scores and highlights from around the league. We start..in Bralk Lakrath where 4-1 Galanor was coming to town to try and keep pace with the top teams in the league and hold onto their second place spot. Gratte Tegar scored three times for the visitors and Korl the Unpleasant scored twice to keep him in a first-place tie for top points scorer in the league. Galanor wins by a score of 7-3, moving them to 5-1 on the season and still in a second-place tie. DA: "To Sweet Milly, first-place and red hot Dracheans coming to town. Kota the Wolf leads the league in kills and coming off last week's shutout, was looking to keep his play right at the top. Valknandra the Fair scored the lone point of the first quinting, but that was all the offense that the home team would bring to the field. Four Drache players scored in all as they retain sole possession of first place in the league. The final from Millabratel is Drache 4, Milly 1. DA: "MystHaven..the Islanders. They have the top offense in the league and of late, Ware the Vile's defense has improved. Tonight, though, was not one of his better performances but you don't need great defense when you have a team of gods..or in the case of the Islanders, the Goddess. Anika Conrad scored two points, had one assist and a career high 10 kills in the winning effort. She moves into a tie with Korl the Unpleasant for top points scorer in the league. Those same two are tied for second place in total points. Gorben the Smooth scored once and added two helpers. MystHaven improves to 5-1 on the year with the win, the score 7-5. Gessihorna drops to 2-4. DA: "Mhernettla and Sivriana. Have you noticed a theme so far tonight? The home team has not had any sort of advantage on this odd night and it was no different with the Korthai in town. Ventzi Tarken and Treb the Hungry each scored once in the cause and Tarken also had an assist. Fenduth the 'People Are' Strange had 29 kills for the visitors who improve to 3-3 on the year. The final from Sivriana, 4-2. DA: "Angelsin visiting the Ruthmarnans and looking to improve to .500 on the season for the first time in a long time, this far into the season. The game seemed a lock until late in the 5th quinting when Saemon and Ware the Brown scored back-to-back points for the home team, forcing the extra quinting. It was Oryan Frathsart who scored halfway through the overtime period, giving the home team their fourth win of the year and for tonight, the only home team win throughout the league. DA: "Finally, it was a somber day this past Thursday as the Keepers of Arankeep laid to rest their fallen teammate and friend, Branth Perlegi. Perlegi was killed in a collision last week with G'Rond Thalberost and Trog Thogmore of Sresar Vale in what looked to be a retaliatory hit after injury caused to Dalt the Common. So, the new era for Arankeep. Newly signed hinterplodder Goren the Sly looking to make an impact and help his new team. He did just that. One point, one assist and six kills in his first game and more importantly, the win. Arankeep winning in convincing fashion by a score of 4-1 over Tralazir. They move to a half-game below .500 and if tonight was any indication, they could become a real contender. The team unity was there and they really looked like a new team. DA: "Now, to the other news of the night. It has been rumored, but not confirmed, that the President of the AGL is going to restructure the postseason. Several changes are in the rumormill. One: A 4-team playoff at the end of the year. Basically, the top four teams at the end of the year would battle for the Arlok Cup, rather than the top two. Two: The teams are split off by location, much like the North/South game. There, the top two teams from each division would advance to the playoffs, which would lead to a bit of controversy should one division be weaker than the other, where a better team record-wise would not make the playoffs due to being in a stronger division. The final option heard is an 8-team playoff with first-round series consisting of 3 games rather than 5. Westin, this is almost mindboggling with the possibilities." WT: "Mindboggling, but a wonderful idea in my personal opinion. The final scenario, to me, seems to be the best out of the all of them. It gives more teams to get a chance. Already, we see improvement in perennial bottom-feeders of the league who, if they come out to a slow start, are pretty much out of the postseason after the first couple weeks. Teams like Drache, Hornath ul-Marfed, MystHaven...you don't see those types of teams slipping enough in the season to drop out of the running. With MystHaven in the AGL this year, there's been a lot of talk about whether or not they would be allowed into the IGL or whether they would have to supply another team to fill the spot, or just be left out entirely. At present, the AGL will send two teams to the IGL. WT: "Now, with the last system of eight playoff teams, you allow for some slip-ups at the start and for those teams who get hot later on, they have a real chance of proving their worth. As a former grubballer myself, it was always disheartening to know that you were out of it long before the season was finished. If more teams get a chance, you can expect a lot more competition out of teams. I think that an eight-team postseason, even if you divide it between two divisions, is the most promising for the AGL." DA: "That is a very good point, Westin, and certainly one that is being taken into consideration during the planning for the AGL future. From here, it looks to only improve an already good thing. The announcement is assumed to be made at some point during the next week and we will keep you posted as the changes are made. It does look, however, that whatever changes come about will affect this season. DA: "And thus concludes tonight's edition of Grubball Tonight. As always, I am Dern Arnak and for Westin Tarbral, I bid you a pleasant grubball evening. Good night, folks." Schedule for 4-17-472 Sresar Vale United (4-0-1) @ Angelsin (2-4) |
